Favorite Reads

Friends, in case it's not obvious, I love to share. I'm quick to talk about my thoughts, my experiences, and the only fried chicken sandwich in my life. I am constantly interrupting Hadrian's work to read him an interesting article or show him the first and second and third drafts of an email I am writing. When I find something good I want to tell everyone about it. So, everyone, here are my absolute favorites of the books I've read in the last year.

Zeitoun: A beautifully written true story about the little known aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. A book that captures the human capacity for bravery and for injustice. Entirely captivating.

Boys in the Boat: This story follows a college rowing team from Seattle as they prepare for and ultimately compete in the Berlin Olympics on the eve of World War II. An invigorating read.

The Wright Brothers: Orville and Wilber, gotta love them. Two people that were put on this earth for a purpose and didn't rest until they fulfilled that purpose.

Big Magic: Go read it. Also, listen to the podcast.

A Walk in the Woods: A frank account of one man's attempt to walk the entire Appalachian trail with a hilariously unlikely companion.

The Warmth of Other Suns: A book that made me angry about my insufficient education in America's history. Detailed stories of three African Americans fleeing the South during the Great Migration. This should be required reading.

The Glass Castle: I couldn't put this book down. A heartbreaking story sprinkled with breathtaking moments of pure humanity.

On my summer reading list:

Becoming Wise by Krista Tippet

Deep Down Dark by Héctor Tobar

What We Talk About When We Talk About God by Rob Bell.

and Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. It's time.

How about you? What's on your list?
